2.4 Assignment - Interviewing a Worker

Requirements:

The purpose of this assignment is to understand the skills necessary to achieve success in a chosen area of work.

Tasks:

  1. Identify your chosen area of work.  (e.g. biologist, electrician, accountant, barista)
  2. Find a worker in your chosen field and interview this person.
  3. Identify the name of the worker and the worker's position.
  4. Ask the worker which skills are needed to do the job.
  5. Ask the worker about the education and training that is required to build those skills.
  6. Reflect on your current situation.  What skills do you need to become employed in your chosen area of work?  For example, are you already following the correct education and training path while still in high school?
  7. What area of education and/or training do you need to pursue in order to acquire the necessary skills?

You must summarize and submit a report.  You have a choice.  For example, you can: 

  • prepare a written report,
  • a video, or
  • a PowerPoint presentation

Submission: 

  1. Use the Assignment - Interviewing a Worker link on the main page of this section of the course to upload your assignment to your teacher for marking.
  2. Upload the report to your portfolio and send a note to your teacher that this was completed.

Interview

Asked questions that would likely encourage a response that is – irrelevant, sketchy, minimally engaging

No score is awarded because there is insufficient evidence of work.

Spelling & Grammar

Exhibits correct spelling, grammar, punctuation.

Mostly correct spelling, grammar, punctuation; uses appropriate/effective language.

Exhibits errors that somewhat hinder comprehension; some appropriate/effective language.

Exhibits many errors that hinder comprehension.

Too many spelling and grammar errors.
