5.5 First Contact Misinterpretation
Task:
After reading the two accounts of first contact misrepresentation and the script "First Encounter", answer the response questions based on your learning from the previous lessons. Remember to use full sentences and transition words.
Response questions:
1. What mode of change does the language in the accounts undergo? (See Lesson 1)
2. How do you know that the mode you chose is correct?
3. What do you think the explorers could have done differently to use the Indigenous language in its intended translation?
4. How do you think the Indigenous people and the explorers were different, based on these texts? Think about their goals, demeanor and the overall outcome of the situation.
