Unit Project - Law Studies
For this project, you will be analyzing a BC Supreme Court Constitutional challenge which was unsuccessful or has not been resolved. You will need to explain the grounds for the challenge then give your opinion on whether or not you think it is valid.
Step 1 - Choosing a Constitutional Challenge
You will need to choose a Constitutional challenge which has been before the BC Supreme Court and which has been in the news. You can choose a case that was unsuccessful and which may or may not be up for appeal, or one which is still before the courts. There are links to two example cases below, which you are free to use, or you can find one of your own.
Case #1 - This case has been before the courts for years. The law was upheld but the ruling can be appealed.

Case # 2 - This has been before the courts for many years but has not been ruled on
BC Supreme Court Challenge of Health Care System
Step 2 - Explain the case
In one paragraph, explain the grounds on which this challenge is based. You will need to draw on the material which you learned in this unit and will need to provide details related to the Canadian Constitution.
Step 3 - Why it was not successful
In one paragraph explain the reasons for this challenge not being successful at this point. You will need to show an understanding of the complications of this issue.
Step 4 - Your analysis
In one paragraph, explain where you stand in regard to this challenge? Why do you or do you not agree with the challenge? Should the plaintiff(s) continue with this case and for which reasons? Do you agree with the progress so far?
Format this assignment with a clear title, followed by the three distinct paragraphs.
