Spoken Word Reflection

Learning Target(s):

  • Understand and evaluate how literary elements, techniques, and devices enhance and shape meaning and impact
  • Examine the significance of terms/words from First Peoples languages used in English texts
  • Discern nuances in the meanings of words, considering social, political, historical, and literary contexts

 

Choose one of the Spoken Word performers from this unit, or another Indigenous Spoken Word Artist of your choice.

Review the common themes and literary devices discussed in the lessons.

Write a paragraph of no more than 300-600 words where you introduce the artist and their work and identify the themes and devices being used. Answer the following questions: Does your chosen artist use the common First Peoples' themes or devices? Why or Why not? What made the piece stand out to you, or what aspect made it powerful? 

Edit your work closely for errors and clarity.

This assignment will require that you use quotations as support and possibly outside research. Be sure to cite all sources of information using MLA format.

Submit your work as one document with the Works Cited page attached
