Learning Targets
By the end of this lesson, you should be able to say YES to the following questions.
- Can I apply thinking skills to gain meaning from texts?
- Can I use personal experience to connect to descriptive writing and develop understanding of myself, my community, and the world?
- Can I read and listen to descriptive writing as a source of creativity and joy?
Reading & Writing Descriptive Text
Through this module, in addition to your Learning Guide, you will be doing a Descriptive Writing Journal. You will be reading and listening to descriptive writing, searching out descriptive writing in your world, and generating images in response to descriptive writing.
Aim for at least 5-10 sentences per entry. Use full sentences and practice your descriptive writing skills.
Choosing Your Journal
You have some freedom in what form you complete your journal on. Here are two options:
- Write it on paper; download and print the journal here:
- Type it on a computer in a word processing document; download and save the template here:
The goal in this journal is to express yourself so your teacher can see how all those magnificent wheels turn in your mind. Do your work neatly, in full sentences, and, when asked, using paragraph format.
For use with Journal #6
For use with Journal #8
How Will This Be Assessed?
