It is time to publish your poems! How will you choose to do this?

Your presentation can be creative! Here are some ideas. Check with your teacher if you have another idea. If you choose a video, be sure it contains the text of your poems.

Project Explanation

You have drafted, revised, and edited six poems in your Learning Guide:

  • Poetry Writing Task One: A Free Verse Poem
  • Poetry Writing Task Two: Simile and Metaphor Poem
  • Poetry Writing Task Three: Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, and Personification
  • Poetry Writing Task Four: Limerick
  • Poetry Writing Task Six: Quatrain

Now, you will publish them. There are many ways you can publish them - suggestions are on the previous page in this online book.

Your published work needs to include:

  • A Cover/Title Page or Screen:
    • Think of a name for your poetry "book" (or slide show or document or movie or ???).
    • Use nice lettering, neat spacing, and colour.
  • Each Poem Includes::
    • Title
    • Neat and thoughtful presentation
    • Drawing/picture/image (can be found online, cut out from a magazine, hand drawn, your own photography or digital art)

Optional:You may choose to include any of the following (or ideas of your own):

  • About the Author - can be at the beginning or end of your published work.
  • Dedication - usually at the beginning.
  • A blurb on the back cover (if completing by hand) or an "Introduction" if completing digitally.
  • Another poem you were inspired to write.

Assessment - Meaning and Style

The first assessment category is meaning and style.

Meaning/Style (Voice, Ideas, Detail, Clarity, Variety/Complexity/Impact of Language)

In other words:

• shows originality

has a strong “voice”

• develops some ideas or images in creative or unusual ways

• uses detail / language effectively to create strong descriptions

• shows a clear sense of audience

engages the reader and creates an emotional impact (e.g., humour, surprise, strong message)

Assessment - Form

The second assessment category is form.Your teacher is looking for:

• the rules of the chosen poetry forms are followed

• strong imagery / use of literary devices (as appropriate to poetry form) is used throughout poems

Assessment - CUPS

The third assessment category is conventions. What does this category involve?

CUPS

  • Capitals
  • Usage (grammar)
  • šPunctuation (where applicable)
  • šSpelling

Assessment - Presentation

In addition to your poems, you can earn marks for the following:

Title Page / Screen - title, author (that's you), nice lettering, neat spacing, and colour

Poem Presentations Overall - neat titles, images that relate to poems, neat printing/writing, effort, and care

Extras - About the author, dedication, table of contents (if completed in a document or on paper), another poem you were inspired to write, or ideas of your own.
