Benefits of Active Living Presentation

You have already gone through some of the health benefits of being active.
Now you are going to produce a presentation that reflects your understanding of the benefits of being active.
Remember, active living means doing it your way. It means:
  • valuing physical activity and making it part of your day.
  • doing activities you find satisfying and fun.
  • being active in ways that suit your routine and your body.

Active Living means taking things in stride ... doing what comes naturally. Participating in sports such as: skateboarding, swimming, dancing and karate; or simply getting involved in more leisurely activities such as: walking, cycling, working in the garden, or even playing frisbee in the park with your friends.

But Active Living is more than just living actively. It also involves cooperation and caring, peace and harmony. It means:

  • experiencing the simple pleasure of being in motion.
  • reaching out and helping others who wish to be active.
  • and living lightly on the land as those who push for a healthy environment so wisely advise.
  • Active Living means different things to different people . . . but it has something for everyone.

In conclusion the Benefits of active living can improve all aspects of the following:

  • Improves academic performance
  • Improves energy
  • Helps release stress and tension
  • Helps improve your appearance
  • Allows you to socialize more
  • Improves self-esteem
  • Helps maintain a healthy body weight
  • Helps decrease tobacco, alcohol and drug use
  • Helps develop a stronger body
  • Helps develop and maintain a healthy body

The Assignment

Many communities across Canada are trying to improve their citizens’ health.

For example, in British Columbia the government has passed a policy on Daily Physical Activity in all schools across the province to see our young kids become more active and lead healthier lifestyles.

Your task is to take initiative in your community and create a presentation that you could send out to schools promoting active living and all its benefits.  (This presentation could be a brochure, a powerpoint, a prezi, a webpage - it is not simply an essay.)

You need to include the following in your presentation:

  • Images:  Add images to help get your message across.  Remember to use images that are opensource or royalty free.  Do not use copyrighted images or images with watermarks. Pixabay is a site where you maybe able to find some good images.  There are many sites out there now that offer opensource or royalty free images.
  • A logo: that best represents what active living is about. Again you may find a stock image from the internet to do this.
  • Six Benefits of Active Living that you feel are the most important. These can be of any importance and order. This will be the subtitles on your presentation.
  • Six Detailed Explanations of what each of those benefits are and a tip on how people can improve one aspect of their lives to increase these benefits.
  • Case Study Example:  Include a paragraph on how these active living has impacted your own life. Explain with illustrative examples of  how active living has affected your life or someone around you.active living rubric
