You are a Canadian judge who has just been appointed to the International Court of Justice. If you would like to learn about the biographies of some current members, you can look at the link below in order to get a sense of your plausible background.
ICJ Members

As your first case, you are told you can choose from any of the pending cases. This wouldn't happen, but you will suspend disbelief for now and will choose one.

Pending Cases

At minimum, for this assignment, you will need to read the overview of the case. Keep in mind that some are much longer than others. You are welcome to read as deeply into your chosen case as you like but you will quickly realize that you will not be able to read it all.

Your assignment

  • Write a one paragraph summary for each side of the case as you see it.
  • Write a brief judgement on the case, explaining precisely how it will be resolved.
  • Write a one paragraph justification for your judgment. Though this is an international court, your judgement will be biased from your Canadian point of view and you can acknowledge that.

You will hand this in as one document, but you must label each section clearly.
