2.2 Assignment - Safety
Requirement:
Your assignment is to prepare a presentation on safety regarding one of the topics below pertaining to activities in the school, home or community. Your research must be based on credible sources that you will identify in your bibliography.
RESEARCH (investigate)
- From the list below, identify an area of interest for you to conduct some online research.
- In your chosen area, identify all of the potential hazards.
- Identify the possible consequences of ignoring these hazards.
- Identify responsible practices that avoid these hazards.
Focus on topics that correspond to classes you are currently taking or are planning to take, in areas such as:
- Technology Education – topics such as safe tool use
- Foods (Home Economics) – topics such as knife safety, stove and hot surface safety
- Music – topics such as hearing loss prevention, repetitive strain injury avoidance
- Visual arts – topics such as safe use of materials and tools
- Dance, Drama, Physical Education – topics such as safe movement, protective equipment
You may also choose to highlight safety issues in relation to other school or out-of-school topics and activities such as:
- sports and physical activities
- ergonomics for computer use at school and home
- impairments and distractions in a range of activities (e.g. from cell phone use, drug or alcohol impairment)
Putting It Together
- Create a PowerPoint, Slideshare or equivalent presentation on all of the information that you gathered.
- Include any videos from your research in your presentation.
- Create a safety poster based on your topic of interest and include it in your presentation. For example, draw the poster, photograph it and then upload it into your presentation.
