2.7 TED Talk

Task:

For this assignment, you will prepare and deliver a presentation in the style of a TED Talk.  The TED format has become a popular form of presentation, where a speaker addresses their audience on a topic that is made clear in the presentation’s title.  The speaker’s words are accompanied by a visual aid, usually a slide presentation that augments the message. Your speech, however, will include only audio - no visual aids.   Officially, TED talks are 18 minutes long, but in recent years, audiences have seen more variety in the length of these presentations.  

 

Your presentation will

    • Be an audio recording of yourself, that is 2-3 minutes long
    • Include YOU as a clearly audible speaker
    • Have a clear and creative message
    • Feel very polished and professional
    • Demonstrate clear and effective communication skills

Your presentation should answer the question: Why is community important?

Assessment: Below you will find the exemplary criteria used to assess the assignment.  

Learning Target: Exemplary (6/6):  Exemplary comprehension of the task and clear accomplishment of the objective. Demonstrates an understanding of the importance of community from a societal perspective as well as a personal perspective and communicates that understanding with clarity, respect, depth, and insight.  There is a clear message.

Oral Presentation: Exemplary (6/6): Final product is of professional quality and demonstrates great attention to detail in its delivery. Spoken word can be clearly heard without distraction and is delivered with appropriate passion and inflection to support the overall message. Presentation is delivered in an interesting, natural, and informative manner.

Estimated Allotted Time:  1 hour plus practice time
