Assignment - Earth's Biomes
For this assignment, you will be creating an infographic or poster of the world's seven major land biomes. To create this, you can use any word-processor such as MS Word, Pages, Google Docs or any other software which you know how to use and which will do the job.
Format
Your poster will feature a map of the world's biomes at the centre with seven boxes around it. Each box will have a title for the biome, an illustrative photo or graphic and several points of bulleted text. It will also include a title and introductory text at the top of the poster. You might want to use lines or arrows to point to the relevant sections of the map.
All of the information for this poster will come from the material in this section of the course.
Below is an example of an infographic that is well done. Yours does not have to be so detailed.
You may use the map linked to below for the centre of your infographic or you can use another that you find.

Step 1 - Rough Sketch
Create a sketch on a blank sheet of paper with the map at the middle. Create boxes for each biome. Put a title at the top.
For each box, include three bulleted points that come from the information in this section of the course.
Figure out where the introductory text will fit best as well as the title.
Work on the layout before beginning the good copy.
Step 2 - Creating your poster
Start by putting your map into the centre. Because this is a digital assignment, you shouldn't have to be too concerned about the size of the poster. Just make sure that the proportions work.
Place your seven text boxes around the map. Type in your bulleted text. You should express this information as succinctly as possible.
Find your images for each box. You want to find an image that is iconic so that someone looking at your computer screen can make out the image. Your image should illustrate the text in the box. You will likely need to crop and resize some of the images.
Once your text/image boxes are complete, decide if you need to use lines or arrows to make your overall message clear.
Write your introductory text. You want to do this last, so that the introduction covers everything that you have included in the assignment.
Step 3 - Handing in the poster
Scan your rough sketch to hand in with the poster.
Check that the file size on your poster is not too big. Large images that have not been resized can the file much larger than it needs to be.
If you would prefer to do the good copy as a hard copy poster, talk to your teacher about handing it in.
