1.1 Assignment
Write a first person response to this war poster from three perspectives. Imagine that you have viewed it in a public place, such as outside of a hardware store.
1) You are a 20 year old man living in Toronto in 1915. You had enlisted for the war but had been turned down due to a minor health problem.
2) You are a 30 year old French-Canadian nurse living in New Brunswick in 1916. You know that there is a need for nurses who speak French in Europe but you do not support the war as you view it as a British war.
3) You are a 40 year old farmer in Saskatchewan in 1917. Your 35 year old brother, married with two children, went to fight in Europe and you have not heard from him in months. You have had to stay back to run the farm and are growing much of your wheat for the war effort. You are not sure if you really understand why this war is being fought.
Write your responses as three separate entries of one paragraph each. In each response, make a specific reference to the wording in the poster as well as the imagery. Be sure to title each response.
