2.3 Assignment
For this section assignment, you will be looking at a pair of photographs taken in the same spot but many years apart. You have been looking carefully at several photographs throughout this section, so you are now familiar with how to read a photograph.
Step 1 - Comparing photos
Look at the photos below of Victoria.
You should be able to see some common features. You might notice that the building in the foreground on the left has the same shape in both photos. Look carefully to see what other features these photos have in common.
You might have an easier time contrasting them. First off, there are no cars in the 1890 photo. Why is that? Were there cars back then?
Step 2- Browsing the collection
For your section assignment, you will be looking through a number of photos on different sites

- On This Spot - Vancouver. Follow the link and then scroll down to "Then and Now Photos" (refer to the image below).
Look through all of the photos and use the slider to compare the old and new photos. There are quite a few sets of photos but you should be able to browse them in a few minutes.
Browse through these photos to get a feel for the changes. You will pick one pair for this assignment. You will want to choose a pair that has common elements and which were taken many years apart.
Step 3 - fill out the worksheet
You will need to fill out this worksheet for the photos. It uses the same format as the sheet you filled out for the coal mine.
