2.4 Assignment

You are an employment counselor in Vancouver. Several people who are planning to move to BC from other parts of Canada have contacted you by email today.

Your job is to compose an email in return in which you best advise this person or people on this very important decision. 

Choose one of the profiles below then advise that person or people on where they should move to in our province. You must take into consideration employment, climate, housing, infrastructure such as schools and hospitals and lifestyle. You must consider advantages and disadvantages in making your recommendation. You may cite a region in general or a specific town or city. 

This will be marked out of 9 according to the letter writing rubric and out of four according to the completion rubric for a total of 13 marks. 

Profiles - Choose one only

  1. Cindy, 42, holds a diploma in tourism management. She is a single mother with two elementary aged children. She is living in Halifax, Nova Scotia where she worked for the local tourism board until recently. Her retired parents moved to Qualicum Beach last year and she would like to be within an hour's travel of them. 
  2. Lou is a single 27 year old man from Saskatchewan. He grew up on a farm but has just completed a degree in computer science. He has no experience in high tech as he worked at a gardening store through university. He is interested in snowboarding, kitesurfing and nightlife. 
  3. Ben and Amanda plan to retire in BC from their farm in Alberta which they have just sold for $350,000. They plan to use this money to buy a two bedroom house that is on one level. They will be living on small pensions but they would like to be in a place with mild winters.  Ben has a medical condition which requires him to be within 30 minutes of a hospital.
