Throughout this unit, you will be exploring the questions:
How does personal and cultural identity impact actions and how people see and treat others?
What has shaped your personal and cultural identity?
You will also see how, in literature, personal and cultural identity impact the actions and treatment of others.
In this unit, you will read, write, and listen to different genres to:
- recognize and identify the role of personal, social, and cultural contexts, values, and perspectives in texts
- construct meaningful personal connections between self, text, and world
- respond to text in personal, creative, and critical ways
- understand how literary elements, techniques, and devices enhance and shape meaning
- recognize an increasing range of text structures and how they contribute to meaning
- practice strategies good readers use before, during, and after reading
- understand how different genres of texts reflect various purposes, audiences, and messages
- learn the basic structure and elements of a short story
- how stories and other texts helps us understand ourselves and make connections to others and to the world.
- recognize and appreciate the role of story, narrative and oral tradition in expressing First Peoples beliefs and points of view
- use writing and design processes to plan, develop, and create engaging and meaningful short stories
