Discrimination in Sport
Sports and athletics has to deal with discrimination as well. Quite often sports can be used as a mirror to reflect back society's own issues around a subject.
Gender, sexual orientation, and race are some of the large issues that sporting organizations deal with.
Instructions
Below are 3 examples of discrimination in a sporting context.
Select one as a case study to explore.
You will have to do some research about the selected case study to be able to complete your presentation.
Put together a presentation (prezi, powerpoint, video, slideshare) that explores the situation.
Your presentation will address the following points
- A summary of the incident

- Include any necessary history and background to fully understand the incident
- Highlight the discriminatory issue

- Discuss the steps that were taken by the victim(s) of discrimination
- What steps were taken by the person/organization that was accused of be discriminatory.
- Explain the result that occurred as a result of this incident

- Did changes occur? Who/what changed? Why?
- Do you think the outcome was positive for the victim? Should anything else have happened or not happen?

- Does this tie into a larger societal issue? (gender equity for example)

- Did this incident help highlight or create progress on the larger issue? Explain why or why not.

- Do you think this particular type of discrimination will ever disappear from sport? Why or why not?
